Introduction to the outline section of this book
This section is an outline of an evangelical-charismatic approach to the main themes in the Bible about the Holy Spirit, which references some of the Scriptures that speak into these themes; a mini systematic theology of the work of the Spirit. It seeks to input into various topics by direct reference to the Bible. It doesn’t contain much explanation or reasoning from the Scriptures towards conclusions; there is much more of that on particular relevant topics in later sections, as different people do understand these passages differently. But it is hopefully helpful to understand how the different Scriptures and topics can be put together in an evangelical charismatic understanding.
We never want to approach the Bible merely for information or to validate opinions; we always want to receive its teaching with faith and put it into practice in obedience. But your understanding and interpretation is almost certain to vary at some points from those outlined here. A great way to approach this section would be to look up the Scriptures as you go through it, and pray where you are challenged, and note down where you do or don’t agree or are uncertain, or where you might prefer to use different language or express things differently.
